A First

Yesterday was an Ixtapa-first for us. This is our 6th time here, each time for 2 months, and we've seen nothing but sunny skies every day. An overcast sky covered us all day yesterday à la Montréal. This was remarkable enough for me to record it on video.

After the sun went down rain began. We saw it from our balcony but I had to stretch out my arm and feel it to believe it. We're back to robust sunshine again but with a fresh perspective on the mellow refreshment of occasional cloud cover and rain. I said occasional.

Today, for two reasons, I called the taxi driver who came to our meeting Sunday. One was to get a taxi ride to the supermarket and the other was to invite him to our place so we could enjoy conversation. I learned his current shift was 4:00 p.m. to midnight making him unavailable when I called at noon. Since he is issued a taxi when he reports for work he is otherwise without a car.

He thanked me for inviting him though, and also for inviting him to our Saturday meeting. He said he enjoyed it very much and was glad to have learned what he did about the scriptures. I assured him the invitation was not limited to that one meeting and hoped to see him there again. I reminded him I'd like to get together with him before long and have a good conversation. He said he'd like that and expressed much appreciation for the phone call.

So we called the taxi company for a ride and got standard service. You may have heard the music called "Tijuana Taxi." "Ixtapa Taxi" has a faster tempo.

To conclude, a little humor I stumbled upon the other day ...

Tourist: "My name is Erik with a k.
Immigration Officer (writes down name): "And your last name?"
Tourist: "With a k."
Immigration Officer: "No, I got that: Erik. What's your last name?"
Tourist: My last name is with a k."
Immigration Officer: "Excuse me? Is your name Erik Erik?"
Tourist: "My last name is With a k."
Immigration Officer: "I don't get it. Would you please explain?"
Tourist: "My last name is literally 'Withakay.' It's all one word."
Immigration Officer (finishes writing): "Good. So please review this document
to make sure I got this right."
Tourist (looking at paper): No, I spell Eric with a c."
